Road Crash Rescue

Text Box: One of the main focus' of the Lilydale Unit is in the provision on RAIR (Road/Aircraft/Industrial/Rail) Accident response.
We pride ourselves on our skills, equipment and response to these life threatening situations, and dedicate a significant proportion of our training time to this important activity. Over the years we have seen significant changes to the way in which these activities are undertaken. From the introduction of powered hydraulic equipment in the late 1970's, to new Technology equipment designed to deal with the latest in vehicle construction.

Storm Damage/Flooding

Text Box: The SES DOES NOT do the following:
Trees on roads (Council or VicRoads)
Trees down in yards/on clothes lines/cubby houses (Owners responsibility)
Trees on Footpaths (Council)
Give advice on "Dangerous Looking" trees: for this you need to engage an arborist
Clean or unblock gutters
We MAY attend to remove a tree off a fence of similar depending on workload

Text Box: Storm Events of many kinds keep SES units busy all year round, but particularly in Storm Season which is October to March. SES units provide 24 hour 7 day a week assistance for home owners with damage from trees and other building damage.
Examples are:
Tree onto a roof with or without obvious structural damage. We will assess this and do what we can to assist removing the tree and making temporary repairs to tiles/sheeting
Tiles/sheeting/Skylights missing from roof
Water coming in from ceiling (not just overflowing gutters!)
Trees down blocking driveways where there is an urgent need to have it removed such as medical needs of elderly residents
We may not in some cases be able to assist you because of the nature of the situation. If the damage is very high up, or the risk of undertaking the operation is too high, the crew will suggest a course of action to you which may involve a contractor. This is your responsibility to pay for, and it is best to consult your insurance company before engaging any contractors to ensure you are covered. VicSES units will not arrange this or recommend anyone, as it is entirely your decision.

Text Box: Preparing for Storms
Prepare for storms by ensuring your property is maintained.
Ensure gutters and down pipes are cleaned and free of debris
Secure Skylights and check sheet roofing on pergolas. Don't forget your Garage and sheds!
Clean up around your yard and remove potential flying objects such as roofing sheets etc
Trim trees (or have them attended to by a professional) to ensure they are healthy (this will reduce risk but may  not eliminate it. A healthy tree is LESS likely to be a hazard)
